Talking nonstop in Seville

Student stories November 6, 2015

For my 2nd language study with ESL, I chose to improve my Spanish skills at Clic International House in the lovely and sunny Sevilla. The school is based in a modern, fully equipped and refurbished historical mansion and is situated at only 5 min walking distance to the main places of interest (Plaza de Toros, Catedral, La Giralda, Ayuntamiento, Real Alcazár, barrio Santa Cruz,..) and the main shopping streets (calle Tetuan, calle Zaragoza and calle Sierpes).

The school is easily accessible by public transport (tram, bus), short walk or by bike thanks to the rental bycicle system with stations all over the city. It has a big sunny patio, a roof top terrace with a small swimming pool and bright classrooms. During the break, you can buy something to eat or drink at the cafetaria on the ground floor and relax in one of the sofas. The staff is very friendly and is always available for any question you may have. You can borrow books in the librabry, which is located next to the main building.

My two teachers, both born and raised in Sevilla, were very passionate, motivated and talkative women with a lot of sense of humour. The emphasis during the lessons is mainly on improving the conversational skills, because Spanish people – and especially Sevillians – love to talk! However, we also spent time to reviewing grammar, vocabulary, writing and listening exercises. The atmosphere in class was really informal and you feel very comfortable and welcome. We had 8 students in class with a big difference in age (between 18 and 50 years old) coming from all over the world: Finland, Brazil, Australia, Japan, China, USA, Switzerland and Germany. Some for professional objectives, others for fun or further studies.

The Santa Ana Apartments and studios – located in one of the most traditional neighbourhoods of Sevilla called “La Macarena” – are situated at only 15 min walk from the school. They are very nice, comfortable and close to a vibrant place with great bars and restaurants. This type of accommodation is very suitable for couples, professionals or for students over 25 years old. Otherwise you can always stay in one of the residences “El Rinconcillo” or “Segovias” at 20 min walking distance or stay in one of the many Spanish host families.

The cultural activity program is one of the many strong points the school has to offer. Javier Solano, the activity coordinator of the school, makes sure that you don’t get bored in Sevilla. There are daily activities from Monday to Thursday (no activity on Friday) as well as weekend excursions. Sample of activities: guided city tour, visit to Real Alcazar, visit to Museo de Bellas Artes, visit to Spanish factory “Ines Rosales”,.. Sample of excursions: one day trip to Cádiz, Jerez de la Fontera, Córdoba, Ronda, etc..

My experience with Clic was very positive because the school is well organized, the teachers are motivated, the cultural activities were interesting and not too expensive and the accommodation was fine. And – of course – last but not least, the weather was great!
