Hey, I’m Marietheres, 21, and my trip started… kind of chaotic, not going to lie.

I was standing at the airport feeling completely overwhelmed. It was my first time travelling solo, and I honestly came straight out of the hamster wheel of everyday life; my full-time job and part-time studies had kept me busy right up until the very last minute. No time to process anything.

But looking back? I can say with absolute certainty: taking this trip was the best decision I could have made.

Valencia completely stole my heart from the first second. I stayed in a shared apartment with five other students from the language school, and honestly, that made everything so much easier. You instantly have people around you, and for me, that turned into the highlight of the whole trip: I met the most amazing girls there, and together we had the time of our lives.

Even though I was only there for one week, I managed to see and experience so much of the city. There was a paella party organised by the school, chill beach days, exploring the city, visiting the Oceanogràfic, and just getting lost in all the small, cool shops around Valencia. It really had everything.

Classes at the Taronja language school were also a great experience. What I loved most was the group dynamic: we were a completely diverse mix. From 18-year-olds to people over 60, every age group and nationality was represented, which made the conversations and exchanges incredibly enriching.

So much happened in such a short time. I didn’t just improve my Spanish; the complete change of scenery also gave me the space to clear my head and figure out so many things for myself.

Stepping away from everyday life for a while truly worked wonders.
