Student stories February 3, 2015

IMAG0216

Yesterday I was watching Kitten Bawl (I promise, it’s a real TV show) while checking the weather forecast for today. The NY mayor was considering closing the schools because of the snow emergency, but he finally decided the city was prepared for it.

The streets were all white, covered in snow and rain.

I have to admit, my stylish, kinda hipster, green shoes were not quite the best choice today, considering there were areas in which it would have been easier to swim through the crossing than actually walking. Anyway, I’m not going to say if I agree with the mayor or not, but there is one thing I can surely state with no regret: new yorkers are super nice!

Of course it’s a busy city, filled up with busy people wearing busy suits, but I was amazed by the amount of help I received in order to survive the rainy jungle and arrive at destination!

The first day of school was nice.

As expected, it felt like entering the United Nations. Germans, French, Italians, Iranians (!), and any kind of culture was represented, creating a very cool melting pot of faces, stories and accents. Man, I love accents!

The thing that really made my day is that most of the students were actually my age. This made me feel at ease from minute 1.

Going against all stereotypes, the loudest person was a German guy in his late 30s. You could really see he was enjoying the history class! Of course he was helped by an Italian guy, more or less the same age.

Ah, and I almost forgot! I got lost in the metro.

Man, the NYC metro is challenging! Did you know that the same line can end up doing different stops, skipping some and getting to a different destination?! Well, I didn’t.

Let’s see what tomorrow will bring. It’s going to be great!
