Today, Wednesday 26th September 2007, all of Europe celebrates the
European Day of Languages. This day is to celebrate linguistic
diversity, plurilingualism and lifelong language learning.
It’s also a good opportunity to remember the objectives of 2001 and to
prepare for 2008, declared the international year of languages by the
UN.
The aim is to attract the public’s attention to Europe’s linguistic
richness. The day also reminds us of the necessity to learn other
languages to enable us to better appreciate the value and benefits of
our cultural diversity.
