“It’s aaaawesoooome”, “OMG”, “ain’t nobody got time for that!” are only 3 of the numerous expressions I thought about when deciding to go for an “English refresh” course in the USA.

So I packed these stereotypes, got a taxi and flew to New York City.

My name is Silvia, I am an ESLer and I’m going to tell you everything (well, at least a few things) about my experience of going back to school after , let’s say, “a few years”.

I have to admit it’s odd to pick the month of January and NYC as a destination, but hey, there must be some magic behind the white layer covering Gotham city.

I’ve been planning this trip for the last month and I am not sure I feel so much different from the first time I went for a language course. Sure, at that time I was 18 and now I’m 31, but what does age really mean? If I think about it, the budget is quite similar, the difference is that this time is coming from my current account. And this is basically how it looks like:

You probably woke up too late for breakfast.

And yes, we like our brunch.

So, you see, same budget, same calories intake really, different priorities.

Scared, thrilled, wishing for the snow to stop, I’m ready for my first day of school, for the first episode to begin.
